The Amibara Drainage Project Phase-II is a hydrogeological study conducted by Water and Power Consultancy Services (India) Ltd for the Ethiopian Ministry of Water Resources. The project focuses on the Melka Sadi and Amibara areas in Ethiopia's Northern Rift Valley region, located on the right bank of the Awash River.
Key Objectives: Preparation of detailed designs, tender documents, project preparation report, and environmental impact assessment for subsurface drainage systems.
Regression analysis was used to predict groundwater depths and EC values for future years (2001, 2006, 2011, 2016):
Main Conclusion: The priority area requiring immediate subsurface drainage is significantly smaller (2,536 ha) than originally anticipated (5,000-6,000 ha). Including areas with groundwater more than 3m below surface would adversely affect project viability.
